I am feeling totally exhausted all the time at the moment – the nausea is not so bad – it does come in waves throughout the day – it is not as bad as it was with my last pregnancy though it does hang around from the time I wake to the time I go to sleep. I am sleeping really well now – though I am struggling to get up in the mornings! That’s ok for this week as I am on holidays but not looking forward to next week when I am back at work....
I am having a real problem with the smell of food – a bit of background about my smell issues – about 2 years ago I lost my sense of smell – it just went – I did have a couple of doubts of the flu (or more like a bad cold) during the winter and it just never returned – it took me a while to realised that I could not smell (which my doctor told me was very normal!) – I start burning food – I mean it was charcoal by the time I remember I was cooking and went and checked it (my son at the times was only about 6 months) – my daughter would say Mum can’t you smell it’s burning – and I could once I was standing over the top of the pot!! Anyway I went to a specialist who did a head scan as apparently loss of smell can be the first signs a brain tumour – it was clear thankfully – he put me on a prescription nausea spray (one you use for sever hay fever) and advised that if that did not work there really is nothing they can about it – it may come back in the future or it may not. Prior to my pregnancy I would get the odd the smell here and there but it was always very distorted – I knew that the smell was not the correct smell...
During my last pregnancy my smell was really heighten to the point that I had to put away my candles as I could not handle the scent – it would make me dry reach... Over the last two weeks I have started to smell food again but not in a good way – I have this absolutely disgusting smell – I can’t even described what the smell is like or relate it to anything – it is a smell that I have never experienced before – when I open the fridge or freeze the smell hits me – it makes me take a step backwards – there is no hanging out in the fridge now – I got my Mum to check the fridge on Christmas day in case there was something rotten that I was missing but she said the fridge smelt normal! The smell seems to be at its worst with red meat – sometimes the smell is so overpowering I can’t eat the food as I can’t get past the smell – like on Christmas day we cooked chipolatas sausage – they absolutely stunk to me and I could not eat them – I had to move them to the other end of the dining table – though my dad brought some breakfast sausages and they were absolutely fine....I’ve had other sausages since with no problems. Yesterday I was at a friend place for dinner and she made a really nice mixed green salad – and that even had the smell not as bad but I could only eat a small amount of the salad as the smell was getting to me!!
The other problem I have with food is dairy – in my last two pregnancy I drank gallons of choc milk....I just love the stuff – I decided this pregnancy that I was not going to not fall into that habit again – so for Christmas breakfast I brought some choc milk for the family and I was really looking forward to a cold glass of choc milk – I had glass and it was totally revolving – the milk tasted sourer...I was so disappointed – I am also off coffee as that is tasting odd as well – Christmas Eve we had dinners at my Mums and she made a cheese cake – which I generally love – tried to have a piece and it was horrible – I said to the my sister there is something wrong with this cheesecake – she said it is you I just had a piece and it is fine and no one else is complaining!! Luckily though I good with ice-cream!! Though just had some chocolate and that tasted odd as well!!!
What’s happening at 9 weeks:
Your baby weighs under 10g -- a fraction of an ounce -- but is poised for rapid growth. All the body parts are now present, including arms, legs, eyes, genitals and other organs, though they're not yet fully formed
By the tenth week of pregnancy, you may find yourself riding pregnancy's emotional roller coaster, feeling moody one day and joyful the next. Disturbing as this is to some women who pride themselves on being in control, what you're going through is normal and will probably continue throughout your pregnancy. Up-and-down emotions are partly caused by your changing hormones.

At week's end, your foetus measures approximately 2.3 centimetres long. In both shape and size, it resembles a peapod and weighs less than 2 grams. The eyelids are fused and won't open until week 27. The wrists are more developed, ankles have formed, and the fingers and toes are clearly visible. Arms are growing longer and bend at the elbows. By week's end, the inner workings of the ears are complete. Though you can't yet identify the sex of the foetus by ultrasound, its genitals have begun to form. By now the placenta has developed enough to support most of the critical job of producing hormones.
